Key UNC Basketball Target Sets Decision Timeline
The UNC basketball staff is just days away from hosting skilled guard Derek Dixon for an official tour in Chapel Hill.
After a weekend visit to Vanderbilt, the four-star guard from Gonzaga College High School (D.C.), a top 2025 prospect for UNC, shared with ZAGSBLOG that he plans to make his recruitment decision by the end of September. While the 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior hasn’t finalized a date, he has one in mind.
“I was thinking about September 27,” Dixon stated.
So far, in addition to his recent trip to Vanderbilt, Dixon has taken official visits to Pitt and Virginia during his junior year. He will visit Chapel Hill for an official tour with Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels starting this Friday, and he’ll conclude his visits the next weekend with a trip to Arizona.
Dixon has climbed 18 spots since January and is now ranked No. 58 overall in the 247Sports 2025 Composite. He has narrowed his choices down to six finalists since late July. The contenders for the talented shooter include UNC, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Pitt, Syracuse, and Virginia.
So far, the UNC basketball coaches have not secured a commitment for the 2025 class. Derek Dixon could potentially be their first newcomer in a few weeks, having received an offer from Hubert Davis in May.
