When kicker Caden Costa was exploring his options with Memphis in the NCAA transfer portal, he reached out to Riley Patterson, a former Tigers kicker now in the NFL. Costa got Patterson’s number from his roommate at Ole Miss, who had a connection with him.
The following day, Costa committed to Memphis.
In an interview with The Daily Memphian, Costa said, “I asked him about his experience here, and he had nothing but positive comments.” He added, “Hearing that really reassured me, knowing there are successful players who have come here and done things the right way. I could envision myself following in their footsteps.”
Patterson, who was recently let go by the Washington Commanders while they finalized their 53-man roster for the 2024 season, is part of a notable group of Memphis kickers who have made it to the NFL.
