In sixteen days, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Commanders will play football during the regular season. Their starting players, both on offense and defense, are therefore trying to develop a feel for the game before that.
The majority of Tampa Bay’s starters have yet to play in the preseason, skipping games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals. However, before that first regular-season game, starters are anticipated to get some playing time in the team’s final game against the Miami Dolphins.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield says there won’t be much, but head coach Todd Bowles is specifically looking for operational smoothness when they on the field.
“It’s about playing in a game, not about being successful.
Focusing on “communication” seemed to be the key phrase when discussing this preseason game. The club has attempted to solve this area throughout the first two preseason games, and this last one gives the starters an opportunity to synchronize before facing Washington in Week 1.
Upon being asked what he expects from the starting lineup on Friday, Mayfield went into great detail regarding one crucial word.
From a procedural standpoint, I believe that the main thing to look for in preseason games is communication. However, we also need to be really accurate with the plays we run,” Mayfield added. Since none of us are playing for very long, it makes sense to focus on the first few third-down plays.
ESPN Gave The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coaching Staff A Low Ranking.
Featuring a sizable chunk of the squad that advanced to the NFC Divisional Round in 2023, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are “running it back” in 2024. With new offensive coordinator Liam Coen and head coach Todd Bowles, they should be able to continue their success, but not everyone is optimistic.
The Buccaneers were ranked 22nd out of the 32 NFL clubs by ESPN writer Ben Solak, who based his rankings on the coaching staffs of each team. He began by talking about Todd Bowles as a head coach, pointing out that although Bowles is an excellent defensive playcaller and game planner, his head coaching ability is still lacking.
“If Bowles had a game management assistant, I could move the Buccaneers up this
It’s reasonable to criticize, for sure. There have been instances of Todd Bowles mishandling the clock in the past, most notably in Tampa Bay’s playoff games against the Lions in the previous season and the Cleveland Browns in 2022. He still has room for improvement in this area, and although his aggression on third and fourth downs has improved significantly, it’s still not on par with some of the NFL’s top coaches.
Liam Coen, the offensive coordinator who is making his NFL debut in Tampa Bay, was another topic Solak brought up.
Coen is an intriguing candidate who, in 2021, used his relationship with Sean McVay to land a position as offensive coordinator at Kentucky (ask Will Levis).” 2022 saw him
Fourth-quarter live game updates between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For their second preseason game of 2024, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveled a short distance—about 3.5 hours—across the coast to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars.
The starting lineup for the Bucs did not play in their preseason victory over the Bengals last week, and they won’t play in this one either, with the exception of the rookies getting some playing time.
The Jaguars will also not be playing their starters in this game, so much of the same will apply. We shall see. The joint sessions earlier this week were relatively quiet in comparison to our usual practices.
