Shocking Twist: 4-Star DT Garrett De-Commits from Georgia Bulldogs

Christian Garrett de-commits from the Dawgs
The Dawgs suffered a significant setback in their 2025 recruiting class on Sunday.

Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class has now shrunk to 22 commitments after four-star defensive lineman Christian Garrett from Bogart (Ga.) Prince Avenue Christian announced his decision to de-commit on Sunday. The 6-foot-3.5, 285-pound athlete had initially selected Georgia over Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and 21 other offers on June 9. With Garrett’s departure, Georgia now has only two defensive line commitments for assistant Tray Scott in the 2025 cycle: Humboldt (Tenn.) nose tackle Stephon Shivers and Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic three-star JJ Hanne. This loss has dropped Georgia’s class to No. 4 in the 247Sports Team Class Rankings. Garrett is ranked as the No. 189 overall prospect in the country, the No. 23 defensive lineman nationally, and the No. 29 recruit in Georgia according to 247Sports.

“I’m a Georgia guy representing the G,” he stated. “Things have remained consistent. They’ve always supported me throughout this process, which really matters to me. It’s been great, and we have a strong relationship. Now, I’m just concentrating on the season.”

Georgia is gaining momentum with two in-state five-star defensive linemen: Justus Terry from Manchester and Elijah Griffin from Savannah Christian, both of whom Garrett mentioned in his recent update as players he’s assisting Georgia with in their recruitment.

“We’re just sharing what we love about Georgia. They’re aware of what we know,” he said. “It’s really just a matter of time now.”

Garrett, Gibson, Griffin, and Terry—along with a significant portion of the recruiting class—are all from Georgia and choosing to stay in-state. Garrett emphasized his desire to represent his home state at the collegiate level, a message he’s been sharing with Griffin and Terry as well.

“We communicate regularly, though not every day. I try to encourage them by saying that as a Georgia guy, it’s important to stay home and support the G,” he stated.

Garrett’s latest visit to Georgia was for his official visit from June 7-9, where he committed to Kirby Smart and Tray Scott before the visit concluded. He missed the cookout due to a conflict with his Prince Avenue team, but plans to attend Georgia games frequently this fall. While his schedule isn’t finalized, he’s likely to attend the Georgia-Clemson game and will return to Athens next week for the home opener.
