Regarding early camp takeaways:
“We have many newcomers to the program, with some first practicing in the spring. There’s a lot of learning happening, but the most encouraging sign is the quality of the kids in the program. They’re eager to learn, highly competitive, and excited to improve and be coached. When you have players like that, they have the potential to grow and develop throughout camp.
The main thing is their eagerness to learn and improve daily. One important message for them is that this process takes time, and they need to adopt a ‘one snap and clear’ mindset to stay focused on the next play.
On advice for the offense so far:
“Given the number of new players, building relationships is crucial. They need to form connections not only within their position groups but with the entire team and the offensive unit. Cohesion is vital in this game, which truly is the greatest team sport.
On depth in the running back group:
“It feels very veteran, even though many haven’t played much here. Everyone has participated at least since last spring, so they know the expectations, how to practice, and how to prepare. They’ve hit the ground running with a lot of confidence. I believe we’ll have several players who can perform at a high level for us.
On Coach Andre Allen and the wide receivers:
“Coach Allen has been an excellent addition. I was lucky to work with him for four years at Washington State and the University of Hawaii, so I know what a great person he is, how effective he is as a teacher, and how well he instills fundamentals. This is crucial for these new players who are learning our methods, from catching the ball to route-running. It’s been fantastic to have him working with them.”
