Wide receiver Michael Dever of Lubbock-Cooper High School has made the decision to enroll in Texas Tech’s football team while remaining at home.
Michael Dever, a promising local product, committed to the Texas Tech football program this week. The Lubbock-Cooper wide receiver has switched allegiances, having previously committed to Colorado State.
In his junior season, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound player caught 40 passes for 672 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Pirates. In the high jump, he also made it to the Class 5A UIL state track and field meet. Six feet, two inches was his leap, good for sixth place in the competition.
He is ranked as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com, making him the No. 62 player in Texas and the No. 65 wide receiver in the nation. He has offers from Tech, Colorado State, Memphis, North Texas, Texas State, and Wyoming, among other schools.
The following is a scouting report on Dever from Gabe Brooks of 247Sports.com: “High jump standout who frequently wins contested throws in pads thanks to that vertical explosion.” Plays larger than indicated size due to athleticism and great frame length. demonstrates exceptional aerial body control while possessing the strength to outmuscle high school defenders at the catch point. has a long striding gait that allows for speed development.
“When necessary, demonstrates improvisational awareness and leaks to space to provide his quarterback a cleaner window. Shows the capacity to change speed and awareness to enhance the higher gears he reaches. motivating juniors to run after catches. Sometimes RAC balance is impacted by a busy gait. A legitimate P4-caliber receiver prospect, this player has great multi-sport jump and long jump statistics (6-8 and 21-11), which when combined with frame length and on-field context could provide him significant long-term potential.”
Joey McGuire and company were particularly pleased with this recruiting victory because it came the day after the Red Raiders lost 2025 wide receiver Isaiah Robertson to SMU after he switched from Texas Tech. Arlington, Texas, native Robertson has pledged to Tech since November of last year. 247Sports.com ranks him as a 3-star prospect and the 107th best player in Texas.
Currently ranked No. 41 nationally, Tech’s class has 17 players committed for 2025. Good enough for sixth place in the Big 12.
