Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich announced on Tuesday that the University of Miami and head swimming coach Andy Kershaw have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2026–2027 season.

Zach Hinsley, the assistant swimming coach, has also been elevated to the position of associate head swimming coach.

Radakovich stated, “Andy has been an outstanding leader for our swimming program.” His student-athletes are still doing well in the classroom and the pool. We can’t wait for Andy and his team to keep expanding on our past achievements.

Under Kershaw’s leadership, Miami just finished its best season to date. This autumn, Kershaw will begin his 12th season in that role. Hinsley, a graduate of the University of Miami, finished his third season as a Miami staff member in 2023–2024.

“I am grateful to Dan, Carter (Toole), and the university for believing in me to lead these incredible women. It is such an honor to represent The U,” Kershaw remarked. “I am eager to move forward with our progress and for the years to come.”

The Hurricanes set a school record with their 391 swimming points at the ACC Championships, good for seventh place in the standings. Miami also achieved the best single-season total ever with eight swimmers reaching a combined 15 NCAA provisional standards (along with four relays) and setting 10 school records during the season, including all five relays.

UM will continue to score points at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in 2024, thanks to the qualification of Giulia Carvalho and Emma Shuppert.

Kershaw stated, “Zach is totally committed to this team and the individuals that make it up.” He genuinely cares about their growth as individuals, learners, and athletes. His zeal has been crucial to our advancement.

“His will to be at the forefront of our sport and these attributes make him one of the best young coaches in NCAA swimming. He will become an excellent head coach at some point.

The Hurricanes won the SMU Invite, their first midseason invitational in over 15 years, and recorded their best win-loss record (9-1) since the 2008–09 campaign. Aino Otava won a Finnish national championship, while Carvalho finished with a bronze at the Brazilian national championships in the previous cycle, adding to Miami’s success in collegiate competition.

A 2024 recruiting class that is among the top in the country and the best in school history will help Miami. At the ACC Championships last year, all six swimmers who signed for 2024–25 and beyond would have received points based on their best marks.

In the 50-yard backstroke, Tayla Jonker holds the national record and is a champion for South Africa. Meanwhile, Ashlyn Massey, who is rated No. 65 in her class, qualified for the Canadian Olympic trials as a finalist. One of the top 100 prospects in the nation is Simone Moll, who placed second at the South Africa National Championships. Carly Lahr, ranked No. 157, was a VHSL 6A state champion and a Junior National qualifier; Marissa Inouye, ranked No. 152, was a Colorado 5A state champion and a Junior National A finalist.
