Center Taylan May will leave the Penrith Panthers effective immediately after being released from his contract, the team has officially announced.
This comes after accusations were brought against the Samoan international for allegedly abusing his partner at home.
He is not permitted to play in the NRL at this time because of the no-fault stand-down rules of the league.
“Taylan May is departing the Penrith Panthers effective immediately and is seeking other opportunities,” the statement stated.
“With respect to all parties, the club will make no further comment on the matter.”
It has been reported by several outlets, including News Corp and The Sydney Morning Herald, that he has received an undisclosed payment.
May and the team recently agreed to a two-year, $1.2 million contract deal that would have kept May with the team through the end of 2026.
