Texas Tech Lands Top Recruiting Class on Monday

The Texas Tech Red Raiders had a huge day on the recruiting trail on Monday, landing commitments from three of their top targets in the 2024 class. Linebacker Kaleb Burns, outside linebacker Smith Orogbo, and defensive lineman Jackson Blackwell all announced their decisions to join the Red Raiders program.

Kaleb Burns Commits to Texas Tech

Kaleb Burns, a standout linebacker from Frisco, Texas, chose Texas Tech over offers from several other top programs. The 6’2″, 220-pound prospect is considered one of the best linebacker recruits in the country in the 2024 class. Burns had drawn interest from schools like Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and USC before ultimately deciding Lubbock was the right fit for him.

Smith Orogbo Picks Texas Tech

Another talented defensive player joining the Red Raiders is outside linebacker Smith Orogbo. The 6’3″, 230-pound prospect from Converse, Texas had been recruited by Baylor, TCU, and Texas among others. But in the end, Orogbo felt Texas Tech was the best place for him to develop and compete at the highest level.

Jackson Blackwell Rounds Out Trio of Commits

Rounding out the impressive trio of Monday commitments is defensive lineman Jackson Blackwell. The 6’4″, 275-pound Mansfield, Texas native held offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. But the Red Raiders were able to keep the talented defensive lineman in-state and add him to their 2024 class. The commitments of Burns, Orogbo and Blackwell represent a huge recruiting win for head coach Joey McGuire and his staff. All three players are ranked among the top prospects at their positions in the state of Texas and will provide an immediate boost to the Red Raiders’ defense when they arrive on campus next year. This is a great start to the 2024 class for Texas Tech as they look to build off their success from last season.
