The decision was a lot tougher than I expected it to be
Highly sought-after five-star tight end Linkon Cure, who is currently uncommitted, is set to reveal his college choice imminently.
He has a momentous decision to make between Kansas, Kansas State, Oregon, and Texas A&M, after completing official visits to each school over the past month. Standing at 6-foot-4.5 and weighing 210 pounds, his announcement is scheduled for July 1
“The year was an absolute roller coaster,” Cure told On3. “It did not play out the way I thought it would. I had a lot of mixed emotions throughout the whole process because of some coaching changes and things like that. It was a crazy process, but I enjoyed every little bit of it. I stayed true to my process and took in the whole thing. I took those four OVs and the decision was a lot tougher than I expected it to be, but I’m pretty settled in on what I see in those schools, what I want and what I can be.”
Cure is confident that he will make the “right decision” when choosing his college
His official visits were pivotal in this process as they provided him with valuable opportunities to engage in significant meetings and interact with players and recruits. These visits also allowed him to immerse himself in the atmosphere at each of his potential choices and understand the potential opportunities offered by each program.
Initially, the second-ranked player in Kansas experienced uncertainty when considering where to pursue his college football career. However, he now feels assured about his impending decision.
“I prioritize the atmosphere at a school, academic aspects, personal growth, and the overall culture,” said Cure, who holds the No. 28 spot in the overall prospect list and is ranked as the second-best tight end in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “These factors encompass everything important to me in a university. When it comes to the atmosphere, it’s something you can’t quite articulate, but it’s one of those situations where when you know, you just know.
“You have to have faith in your instincts and trust in God that it’s the right choice. If you feel a strong connection at one university but not at another, it would raise doubts about your decision. Therefore, you have to follow that intuition.”
Cure provides detailed evaluations of the schools he is considering
Kansas: “The culture at Kansas is incredible, and the program is showing significant growth under coach Lance Leipold. I’m genuinely excited about what the future holds for them. I have a deep appreciation for the coaching staff and the surroundings. Being there, I enjoy every aspect of it, especially the great food and the overall vibe.”
Kansas State: “I have a strong fondness for everything about Kansas State. The culture and the environment within the program are particularly appealing to me. It’s crucial for me to feel connected with the guys I’ll be spending a lot of time with if I choose Kansas State. The leadership and coaching staff are exceptional, and I truly admire everything Kansas State has to offer. I also have great respect for what coach Chris Klieman has accomplished there, and I hold the individuals there in high regard. It’s a wonderful place to be.”
Oregon: “I’m absolutely enamored with the region. While my other finalists are relatively close to each other, Oregon stands out on the West Coast. I like the idea of being able to immerse myself in football, far away from external distractions. The coaching staff at Oregon has won me over, and I appreciate everything about them. I have a deep admiration for coach Dan Lanning, coach Drew Mehringer, and coach Will Stein. I appreciate their vision for me, how they intend to utilize my skills, and their plans for my development. The area and the fans have also captured my heart.”
Texas A&M: “There’s so much to love about Texas A&M. I share an incredible bond with coach Collin Klein, which is truly special to me. I’ve also developed wonderful relationships with Christian Ellsworth, coach Mike Elko, and coach Patrick Dougherty. The leadership and the evolving culture at Texas A&M are aspects that resonate with me. They are a program on the rise, and I eagerly anticipate what the future holds for them.”
