Appalachian State ‘deeply saddened’ by death of starting offensive lineman
Appalachian State football coach Shawn Clark announced on Tuesday the passing of offensive lineman John “Jack” Murphy. In a message posted on X, Clark expressed deep sadness at the loss and urged everyone to keep Murphy’s loved ones and the entire App State community in their thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
Murphy, who started in 14 games at offensive tackle last season, was recognized as a third-team All-Sun Belt selection.
The university informed ESPN that Murphy passed away on Friday. The statement did not mention the cause of death, but it did clarify that no foul play was suspected.
