Just In: UCLA Bruins land a key commitment from a top 4-star safety, beating out USC and Ohio State.

During Chip Kelly’s final years as head coach, the UCLA Bruins struggled to win many recruiting battles against top-tier programs. The arrival of first-year coach DeShaun Foster appears to be turning the tide, as evidenced by a significant commitment secured over the weekend.

The UCLA 2025 recruiting class had already been performing strongly. After being ranked 44th in the 2024 class by 247 Sports and 69th by On3.com, the Bruins entered the weekend with a collection of commitments that ranked within the top 30. The group received a further boost with the recent announcement.

As initially reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.com, four-star safety Jadyn Hudson has pledged his commitment to UCLA’s 2025 recruiting class. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, the defensive back marks the 11th commitment for this upcoming class, matching the total from the 2024 recruiting cycle.

UCLA not only secured one of the nation’s top safeties and retained local talent, but also triumphed over competing programs such as the USC Trojans, Tennessee Volunteers, and Ohio State Buckeyes in acquiring Hudson. His commitment instantly elevates him as one of UCLA’s premier recruits for the 2025 class.

“I knew when I was on my official visit to UCLA on June 1 that I was going there. Talking to the coaches, spending time with the players and being around all of the people at UCLA, I knew that is where I wanted to go. Coach Foster is changing things. He is already making a big difference at UCLA. He cares about his players. Coach Foster came from a military background, so he is all about discipline and teaching.”

Now, let’s delve into a brief overview of all the essential details about the latest addition to UCLA’s promising 2025 recruiting class.

Background on UCLA Bruins recruit

Jadyn Hudson is a standout defensive player at Pittsburgh High School, located within a six-hour drive from UCLA’s campus. The Bruins were seen as the top choice to secure his commitment, despite receiving offers from notable programs like USC, Ohio State, Oregon, and Georgia.

Jalyn Hudson: A four-star safety, ranked as the 29th recruit in California and the 27th among all safeties nationally.

Hudson is poised to bring exceptional athleticism to the collegiate level. He excels at two positions in Pittsburg, serving as both a safety and a wide receiver. Although he may not possess the complete skill set required to play wide receiver at the next level, his proficiency in ball handling and catching could potentially transform him into a dynamic playmaking safety for the Bruins’ defensive unit in the coming years.
