Deion Sanders’ legitimacy as college football coach questioned by Paul Finebaum

Deion Sanders quickly grabbed the spotlight in college football when he joined Colorado last season, but faced extensive criticism as the Buffaloes struggled, losing eight of their last nine games and ending with a 4-8 record.

Despite high expectations for a turnaround in 2024, many college football analysts, including ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, have expressed doubts about Sanders’ coaching performance.

Finebaum remarked that Sanders’ success came against weaker opponents and that the hype surrounding him was somewhat manufactured. Although Colorado briefly entered the top 25 rankings with a 3-0 start last season, Finebaum emphasized that Sanders is more of a celebrity figure than a proven coach.

Colorado’s wins last season came against teams with subpar records, and while some losses were close, the Buffaloes fell short of bowl eligibility. Despite the discussions around Sanders, Finebaum admitted he had overlooked Sanders as a relevant coach in recent conversations.

Sanders responded to the criticisms on social media, suggesting that it’s crucial to stay true to oneself rather than trying to meet others’ expectations. He emphasized the importance of authenticity over portraying a false image.
