Michigan football had a strong showing in total defense this year, ranking near the top of the NCAA, which is a significant achievement for the program.
Unfortunately, this success was overshadowed by their offense’s poor performance, which ranked near the bottom of Division I. The Wolverines struggled with fumbles and overall inefficiency, leading to five losses against eight victories this season. On December 31, former offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell, who was recently dismissed, reached out to fans amid the busy bowl season, appearing upbeat as the year came to an end despite his departure from coaching in Ann Arbor.
“Happy New Year! 2024 was an amazing year,” Campbell posted on his X account, sharing photos from the successful national championship journey. “Wishing everyone blessings in 2025!

Campbell worked as the quarterbacks coach for JJ McCarthy, a future first-round draft pick, while Michigan secured the 2023-2024 national championship in Houston, Texas. Despite being replaced as Michigan’s offensive coordinator by former North Carolina coach Chip Lindsey, Campbell’s post reflected a positive outlook rather than disappointment. With the upcoming additions of Mikey Keene, a quarterback transferring from Fresno State, and Bryce Underwood, the top player in the Class of 2025, the Wolverines’ offense has the potential to improve significantly next season, especially given the recent struggles at that position.
