Star Running back feeling ‘grateful’ after receiving initial offer from UNC football.

Led by the acquisition of star quarterback Drake Maye prior to the 2021 college football season, the North Carolina Tar Heels have demonstrated significant skill in recruiting. This success can be attributed to head coach Mack Brown. Despite UNC’s historical tendency to struggle in the latter part of the season, it is not due to a shortage of talent on the team.

The standout of North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class is 4-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp, who possesses all the necessary abilities to make an immediate impact. The Tar Heels’ 2025 group is highlighted by commitments from two 4-star prospects, offensive tackle Alex Payne and edge rusher Austin Alexander. Furthermore, the highest-ranked recruit in UNC’s 2026 class is Faizon Brandon, who is the number one player in the nation.

North Carolina is beginning its foray into the Class of 2027. On Monday, July 1, Tar Heel Illustrated revealed that the Tar Heels extended an offer to Amir Brown, a running back hailing from Millbrook High School in Raleigh.

This offer holds special significance for Brown as it marks his first in the recruitment process. Understandably, he was quite thrilled about it.

“This offer from UNC is a true blessing, and it doesn’t even seem real yet,” Brown told THI’s Lee Wardlaw. “Especially (Carolina) being my first offer. I’m just trying to continue to work for more opportunities. I’m not satisfied!”

Brown made a notable debut in his freshman year on the varsity team, rushing the ball 85 times for 472 yards and scoring a touchdown. His contribution was instrumental in leading Millbrook to a 9-3 (4-1) record, culminating in a second-round appearance in the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs.

With increasing exposure to varsity play, Brown is poised to further develop and improve his skills.

If UNC aims to secure its future running back, especially after Omarion Hampton’s departure for the NFL Draft, it would be prudent to closely monitor Brown’s progress.
