No. 10 Texas A&M (18-5, 7-3 SEC) is now 3-0 over the past two weeks in conference play, as the Aggies took care of business on the road against No. 15 Missouri in one of the better games of the season, as star guard Wade Taylor IV nailed a game-winning 3-pointer with just over two seconds remaining.
This is the best start to a season under head coach Buzz Williams, who was more than proud of his team’s relentless effort despite struggling to put together consistent offense down the stretch, mainly due to the play of the Aggies’ frontcourt performance from Pharrel Payne and Henry Coleman III.
Scoring a game-high 20 points, Payne’s late impact in “gotta have it” situations kept the Aggies from getting behind more than five points in the second half. At the same time, Coleman’s career-high 16 rebounds were impressive and kept Missouri from second-chance opportunities.
Moving up to No. 13 in the NET rankings, Texas A&M’s NCAA Tournament resume continues to grow. With another win against an AP Top 25 team, the Aggies are 6-2 against ranked teams this season, the best mark in program history.
With four games remaining against ranked opponents, including Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Auburn, there’s a reason Texas A&M is fighting for a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Still, even an average showing to end the regular season should result in a 2 or 3-seed.
