5-star officially signs with UC Bearcats basketball

On May 17, it was announced that the Cincinnati Bearcats have secured Texas transfer forward Dillon Mitchell for the 2024 season, with his signing finalized on Thursday, May 23.

Mitchell becomes the third transfer recruit for UC coach Wes Miller, alongside Connor Hickman from Bradley and Arrinten Page from Southern California.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Mitchell has two years of eligibility left and has made 71 starts throughout his career. He is the first McDonald’s All-American to play for the Bearcats since Lance Stephenson during his 2010 Big East Rookie of the Year season.

Having already achieved significant success with NCAA Tournament teams, I believe he can elevate his performance here at Cincinnati. We’re eager to welcome Dillon and the rest of our players back to campus to kick off our summer program next week.”

Mitchell recorded 17 games with double-digit scoring while averaging 9.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, with his rebounding average second only to Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson in the Big 12. His highest scoring game was 21 points against UConn, the defending national champions, where he also collected eight rebounds. He contributed 30 blocks, ranking second on the team, and posted 10 points and four rebounds in 37 minutes during a game against UC at Fifth Third Arena.

Originally from Tampa, Mitchell achieved eight double-doubles, showcasing impressive performances against LSU, Texas Tech, Houston, and TCU.

As a freshman, he started all 38 games for the Longhorns, leading Texas with a shooting percentage of 63.6% from the field. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, highlighted by an eight-point, nine-rebound effort against Gonzaga in his third game.
