5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson Shares major Recruiting Update

After over four years of being a top target for Georgia, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson is ready to announce his commitment. Posting on his personal Instagram account on Monday evening, Atkinson let it be known that he will make his decision public on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker will choose between Clemson, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas.

Atkinson took an official visit to Clemson on May 30, to Oregon on June 6, to Georgia on June 13, and to Texas on June 20. Atkinson has been seen as Georgia’s primary linebacker target in the 2026 class from start-to-finish. Joining Atkinson on his official to Georgia were several prospects already committed to Georgia: quarterback Jared Curtis, tight end Lincoln Keyes, wide receiver Vance Spafford, and safety Zech Fort. Two more in town on official visits that weekend, Buford defensive back Tyriq Green and Valdosta defensive end Corey Howard, recently joined Georgia’s class as well.

Now the Bulldogs get to see if they were able to close the deal.

“Georgia, with Coach Schu, we talk all the time,” Atkinson told Dawgs247 earlier this spring. “We hung out with him and talked to Coach Kirby [Smart], and we talked to Coach Kirby out at the practice too. So it was good.”

Atkinson has been visiting Georgia since the early stages of his high school career.

He’s been for games and junior days. He’s been for practices and recruiting events. He’s even come up random weekdays just to stop by to spend time with Georgia coaches, or check in on a basketball game to spend some time with Glenn Schumann.

After his most recent visit, Atkinson called taking visits to Georgia “easy” because of the family relationship.

‌”Nothing was really new, just got to hang out with them when I was at their practice, and you know, just seeing what they do on like a Tuesday practice, so it was just like that, and just saw everything they did,” Atkinson said. “I’ve just been with them since I was in eighth grade. I’ve been knowing them since I was in eighth grade. Pretty much the same coaching staff too. So, it’s easy with them.”

Georgia co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Glenn Schumann flipped Mobile (Ala.) Cottage Hill Christian Academy four-star Shadarius Toodle from Auburn, and also has the Dawgs in the mix for another four-star linebacker, Owings Mills (Md.) McDonough’s Nick Abrams II, who is set to announce his commitment to Alabama, Georgia, or Oregon on Wednesday.

Georgia has 29 commitments in the 2026 cycle right now, a group that is ranked No. 2 in the 247Sports Team Class Rankings. Adding Atkinson would give Georgia 307.31 points, enough to pass USC for the No. 1 class in the country.
