Kosar was a key figure in this era, helping to cement Miami’s reputation as “Quarterback U” and leading the team to its first-ever national title.
Bernie Kosar started all 12 games as a freshman in 1983, leading the Miami Hurricanes to an 11-1 overall record and a berth in the Orange Bowl against Nebraska. During that season, he threw for 2,328 yards and 15 touchdowns, showcasing his potential as a talented young quarterback.

Although his third year with the Canes wasn’t as successful as his freshman season, he still earned second-team All-American honors and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
