BREAKING: Texas Tech Raiders Assistant Coach No longer with The Team

Tim Tadlock, head coach of Texas Tech, announced on Wednesday that assistant coach Joe Hughes has resigned. After 12 seasons with the Texas Tech staff, where he served as both Director of Operations and an assistant coach, Hughes has decided to step away from college baseball.

“Joe has been instrumental to our program’s success at Texas Tech and will be greatly missed,” Tadlock stated. “He and his family will always be part of our baseball community. We wish them the very best as they embark on this new chapter.”

Hughes, who played under Tadlock at both Grayson County College and Oklahoma, joined Tadlock’s staff in 2012 as the Director of Operations and was elevated to assistant coach prior to the 2024 season.

During his time at Texas Tech, the Red Raiders made four appearances in the College World Series in Omaha, including their inaugural trip in 2014. The team also won three consecutive Big 12 championships from 2016 to 2018.

“I am incredibly grateful to Coach Tadlock, the staff, the administration, Red Raider Nation, and especially the players for these past 12 years,” Hughes remarked. “My experience at Texas Tech has been truly amazing. I will miss working with the team, but I look forward to seeing the program’s continued success as they aim for victory in Omaha.”

Tadlock is expected to provide more information about Hughes’ successor at a later date.
