4-star safety has flipped his commitment from Florida to Syracuse. The Florida Gators saw their commitment list decrease by one on Sunday evening when the Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage player chose to return to the Orange. Initially, Samuel had switched from Syracuse to Florida after committing to the Gators for the 2025 class in late July. He had reclassified from the 2026 class to the 2025 class and had recently visited Gainesville successfully prior to his announcement.
However, after visiting Syracuse this weekend, Samuel decided to rejoin the Orange. He had originally committed to Syracuse on March 30 as a 2026 prospect before flipping to Florida on July 31. His last visit to Florida was during their season opener against Miami, where he indicated, in a recent conversation with Swamp247, a desire to explore future visits. This loss leaves the Gators without any commitments at the safety position for their 2025 recruiting class.
As of the end of August, Florida’s 2025 commitment list stands at 13 verbal commitments. The class includes notable players like Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III, Tallahassee (Fla.) James Rickards four-star Edge Jalen Wiggins, and several others, highlighting a strong recruitment effort despite the recent loss.
