Just In: Hamilton Tiger-Cats release 29 players including 27-year-old Talented star

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made significant roster moves on Saturday, releasing 29 players and adding 10 players to their practice squad. Among the notable cuts were defensive lineman Mason Bennett and several other players across various positions, including the offensive and defensive lines, defensive backs, linebackers, quarterbacks, receivers, tight ends, and running backs. The Tiger-Cats are finalizing their roster ahead of the upcoming CFL regular season, which begins on June 7th with a matchup against the Calgary Stampeders.

Mason Bennett, a 26-year-old defensive lineman from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a 6-foot-4, 262-pound player who re-signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on February 7, 2024. Despite playing in two preseason games, Bennett did not record any statistics for the Ticats.

Bennett was drafted by the Ticats in the first round (8th pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. Throughout his three seasons in the league, he has accumulated 44 tackles, five tackles on special teams, and eight sacks in 43 games. In the 2023 season, Bennett made five tackles, one tackle on special teams, and one sack in 14 games.

In his collegiate career at North Dakota (2016-19), Bennett played in 42 games and recorded 126 tackles (64 solo, 62 assists), 31.5 tackles for loss, 20 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have announced their roster and practice squad for the upcoming season. The roster includes:

2. Running Back: Calvin Tyler Jr., Matthew Peterson
3. Wide Receiver: Jacob Patten, Omar Bayless, Chris Coleman, Dev Holmes, Marcus Rogers, T.J. Vasher
4. Tight End: Michael Ezeike, Camren McDonald
5. Offensive Line: John Kourtis, Jakub Szott, Kendrick Sartor
6. Defensive Line: Mason Bennett, Dyton Blackett, Anthony Federico, Mitchell Townsend, Darrius Moragne, Adam Plant, Derrick Tangelo, Cedric Wilcots
7. Linebacker: Aaron Hansford, Marvin Pierre
8. Defensive Back: Jonathan Giustini, Shakur Brown, Arquon Bush, David Vereen
9. Punter: Bailey Flint

The practice squad includes:
