BREAKING: Toronto’s key-man (illness) uncertain for Game 5 as he speaks out

Toronto Maple Leafs standout Auston Matthews, who is dealing with an illness, accompanied the team to Boston, but his participation in Game 5 remains uncertain as the team confronts potential elimination. Head coach Sheldon Keefe mentioned on Monday that Matthews’ status is still up in the air, with his availability yet to be confirmed. Matthews was absent from Monday’s practice session, and Keefe expressed a wait-and-see approach regarding his condition for the upcoming game.

During Game 4, Matthews was removed by the team’s medical staff in the second period after playing for just 14 minutes and 16 seconds, contributing a shot on goal and two hits before leaving the ice.

The Maple Leafs currently trail the Bruins 3-1 in the series. Matthews fell ill following Game 2, and Keefe noted that this particular illness has persisted and worsened when Matthews has been actively involved in play.

Despite a strong performance in Game 2 with a goal and two assists in a 3-2 victory for the Leafs, Matthews’ impact lessened in the subsequent games, managing only four shots on goal in the following two losses. In the regular season, Matthews amassed an impressive 107 points, comprising 69 goals and 38 assists.
