The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing for their second preseason game of 2024, taking place on the road yet remaining within Florida. They will compete against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Duval County after two days of joint practices.
Three players who participated in these practices are expected to stand out during the game on Saturday:
S Kaevon Merriweather
Merriweather had an impressive performance in the preseason game against the Bengals and is eager to bounce back after facing challenges during joint practices. Matched against the speedy Brian Thomas Jr., he allowed two touchdowns while filling in for Jordan Whitehead. Merriweather aims to build on his momentum from the Bengals game and is motivated to make impactful plays.
OLB Chris Braswell.
Braswell has been getting first-team reps due to the absence of players like Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and he has been using this opportunity to refine his skills. Coach Todd Bowles praised him after the second day of joint practices, where he recorded several pressures against the Jaguars. If Braswell is utilized in more pass-rushing situations on Saturday, it will be interesting to see how he performs.
These players are poised to make significant contributions as the Buccaneers face the Jaguars.
WR Trey Palmer.
While Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan has been receiving a lot of attention lately, this only increases the importance of keeping an eye on Trey Palmer.
Palmer, known for his fiery attitude during the 2023 regular season, has been improving his deep ball skills as training camp comes to a close. He made a notable catch during joint practice on Thursday, connecting with Kyle Trask for Tampa Bay’s only significant play. As he looks to replicate that success on Saturday, a standout performance could intensify the competition for the WR3 position.
