On Tuesday, Spears-Jennings revealed on X that he will play his senior season in Oklahoma the following year. He made his announcement the same day defensive tackle Damonic Williams declared he would return rather than declare for the NFL Draft.
After a standout 2024 season in which he started the final 11 games at safety, Spears-Jennings also had the opportunity to test the waters of the NFL Draft. In addition to five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, two fumble recoveries, and four forced fumbles, he finished second on the team with 66 tackles.

Apart from safety Billy Bowman Jr. and linebacker Danny Stutsman using up all of their eligibility and heading to the NFL, the Sooners are bringing back key members of their defense for the upcoming campaign.
Even after Zac Alley left OU to take a position at West Virginia as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, Spears-Jennings and Williams made their announcements. Regardless ofwho takes Alley’s place as the Sooners’ defensive coordinator next season, it appears the players on that side of The ball is still purchased.
Cornerback Eli Bowen, defensive linemen Gracen Halton and Jayden Jackson, and linebackers Kobie McKinzie and Kip Lewis are also returning starters for the Sooners.
OU has yet to hear from defensive end R Mason Thomas regarding his future plans. With one year of eligibility remaining, Thomas may also transfer to another school or even join the NFL. 1 Last week, OU’s NIL collective, Oklahoma, announced on X that Thomas was coming back, but the post was quickly removed.
No matter who is in charge of OU’s defense the following season, the Sooners will still have the talent to rank among the top defensive teams in the SEC if Thomas and all those others return.
