Huge boost as Tampa Bay Rays activate highly rated 2B/OF from IL

The Tampa Bay Rays have activated infielder/outfielder Richie Palacios from the 10-day injured list on Monday.

Palacios’ last game for the Rays was on July 31, before he was sidelined due to a hyperextended right knee.

In his first season with the Rays, he has a batting average of .233, with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 19 steals over 88 games.

At 27 years old, Palacios has made double-digit starts at second base (26), right field (25), and left field (15) this year.

In a related move, the Rays optioned infielder Austin Shenton to the spring training complex.

Currently, the Rays have a record of 78-78, trailing the New York Yankees by 14 games in the AL East, but only four games back in the wild-card playoff race.
