It has been less than a year since the Atlanta Falcons gave Kirk Cousins a four-year, $180 million contract, but it’s looking like his time with the team could be short-lived. They surprisingly drafted Michael Penix Jr. with their first-round pick last year and he eventually replaced Cousins as the starter due to poor play.
Penix is clearly the future at quarterback in Atlanta but Cousins is still under contract for three more seasons. The Falcons could cut him and eat his dead cap money or they could try to salvage some value in a trade. While Cousins isn’t going to be a hot commodity, a struggling team like the Tennessee Titans could take a look at him.
Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus put together a list of trades that could “shake up” the 2025 NFL offseason. He listed a Cousins to Tennessee trade as one of them. “Head coach Brian Callahan benched Will Levis this past season after various bouts with questionable decision-making, and could very well look at a veteran signal-caller to take up the mantle,” Cameron wrote.
“That would provide this team with flexibility come draft day, while also finding their starter under center. “While being traded to the team with the worst record in the NFL last season may seem like a clear-cut opportunity for Cousins to exercise his no-trade clause. The AFC South continues to profile as a fairly winnable division, which may appeal to Cousins, who will be 37 years old come August.”
