Alvin Kamara takes subtle shot at Saints front office after reveal during ‘Hard Knocks’

The New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara are currently in negotiations for a new contract for the veteran running back, as he approaches 29 years old. Although he continues to deliver impressive performances on the field, there has been a decrease in his overall production.

On Wednesday, the running back conveyed a resolute message to the Saints via Twitter. It is evident that Kamara is feeling quite frustrated about the ongoing contract discussions and believes he is not receiving the recognition he deserves for his talent and contributions to the team.

His social media post was prompted by a video showing the New York Giants’ management discussing the extension of star RB Saquon Barkley, which may have come across as somewhat disrespectful to the player, solely focusing on the business aspect.

The running back position has garnered attention in recent years due to the scarcity of long-term contracts being offered, especially as players near the age of thirty, with the exception of Christian McCaffrey. Kamara appears to be apprehensive that he will be overlooked in the next round of contract negotiations.

Kamara departed from the Saints’ last minicamp session ahead of schedule, citing contract-related concerns

His representative verified that the reason for his early departure was indeed linked to contract matters, considering he is approaching the final year of his current deal.

According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, he recently outlined the specific terms that Kamara is seeking in a new contract from New Orleans

“I’m told Kamara is open to doing a reworked two-year deal, strengthen his guarantees in year one. They’ve talked about it. So far, not a lot of momentum. We’ll see if something shakes out. He could be a threat to miss training camp if they don’t get something done before late July.” — Jeremy Fowler via Sportscenter

He definitely has a clear idea of his desired future with the Saints. It remains to be seen whether both parties can reach a consensus before the start of the regular season.

There’s no doubt that the Saints’ offense performs better with Kamara in the lineup. Fans are undoubtedly eager to witness the star running back playing under the guidance of new OC Klint Kubiak in 2024.
