Southeastern and Carolina Tar Heels’ esteemed star has set a record for the UNC football program.
The North Carolina Tar Heels have boasted one of the deepest tight end groups in college football over the last few seasons, largely thanks to local talent Bryson Nesbit.
A senior out of South Mecklenburg High School, Nesbit has scored a touchdown in each of his four years at UNC. He was named to the 2024 preseason Mackey Award Watch List, indicating he is in the running for the nation’s top tight end.
Nesbit’s latest touchdown, which marked the first score for North Carolina during their home opener against Charlotte last Saturday, established a new program record with 11 career touchdowns.
As of the first two games of the Tar Heels’ season, Nesbit has accumulated 1,308 career receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 38 receptions. He needs 505 more receiving yards to surpass Eric Ebron, the last UNC tight end to be drafted into the NFL.
Last season, Nesbit shared playing time with John Copenhaver and Kamari Morales. Now that Morales has moved to Boston College, Nesbit is expected to see significantly more playing time this year.
However, Nesbit sustained an upper-body injury during the game against Charlotte and did not return for the second half. North Carolina head coach Mack Brown shared some positive news in the postgame press conference, stating that neither Nesbit nor any other player on the roster is at risk of missing the rest of the season.
